17 Gospel songs: Restoring faith and understanding how Gods love works
The challenges of the past year and a half have really forced me to dig deep and truly trust in God’s goodness. My praise and worship sessions look something like the list below – this month has been plagued with a lot of loneliness, sadness, and multiple disappointments. On those days when I question God’s will for my life, understanding his love for me makes me sleep easier at night and it is through gospel music where my faith in the Lord is restored – I am truly grateful for its existence. Nothing has felt easy but knowing God and remembering what God said in these 6 scriptures has made living through some of life’s struggles easier.
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
Psalm 119:10 – “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
Psalm 23:1 – “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
Matthew 6:10 – “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah has taught me to stop disqualifying myself for I have been divinely chosen and set apart amongst 7 billion people. I truly am worthy.
My 26-year-old self is finally dealing with the trauma of the childhood experiences (absent father/daddy issues) and continued disappointments in my adult life, debilitating anxiety, the loneliness in my current academic journey, the confusion that comes with career mapping – the concept of God loving me overwhelms me. Sometimes, I still feel undeserving of His love and attention. But I have learned that God delights pleasure in loving me and I don’t have to do anything to earn it and that should be enough.
God is very creative when he wants you to find your way back to his kingdom. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the holy spirit be with us today and forevermore.
